Streamlining our online reading is not easy.
There’s so much content out there – websites, social media, newsletters. We find we’ve spent an hour reading online and have achieved nothing.
Unfortunately, many of us don’t filter our feeds and end up being overwhelmed.
We make it worse by following more accounts over time.
- We don’t filter out the noise in our feeds
- We get easily distracted by other notifications and emails
- We subscribe to lots of different websites
With these three steps you can have a feed that is filtered and curated just for you.
Step 1: Use Twitter lists
If you follow more than 200 people, your main Twittter feed will be unreadable.
Use private lists to create your topic feeds. Add specific accounts to each list to ensure a quality feed. Pin your lists so they show at the top of your Twitter app.
Now, rather than reading your main feed on Twitter, read your curated lists.
Step 2: Subscribe to newsletters using Instapaper
Newsletters clutter up our email inbox, so we skim read or delete them.
Find quality newsletters that curate ideas on topics of interest to you. Subscribe to these newsletters with your Instapaper email address. In Instapaper you can now read your newsletters in one place and highlight key learning.
No more inbox clutter or hours wasted browsing.
Step 3: Use Readwise to store your thoughts
It’s easy to read, have some ideas, and then quickly forget them.
Readwise stores your Instapaper, Kindle, and Twitter highlights together. You can now browse your Readwise feed to see ideas that resonated with you in the past.
Having a curated feed and storing highlights makes for meaningful online reading.
